Visceral Manipulation/Abdominal Massage

Visceral (organ) Manipulation is a therapeutic modality that works to identify and release adhesions in relation to the organs and surrounding structures; that may be leading to chronic pain, muscularskeletal pain, IBS, female health issues, etc. with the aim of reducing pain and improving function and balance.

Issues dealt with during Visceral Manipulation/Abdominal Massage

IBS and Digestive dysfunction

Digestive dysfunction can be due to a variety of issues and can manifest in various ways, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Visceral Manipulation will help identify any restrictions within the organs that may be contributing to the symptoms and aim to release them. When organs and other structures can move freely in their environment, they are able to function better and cause fewer issues thus improving digestion and absorption.

Female health

Like abdominal organs, pelvic organs can become restricted and develop adhesion’s within the pelvic cavity. This may be due to a variety of reasons, including child births, pregnancies, miscarriages, musculoskeletal issues etc. These restrictions can lead to chronic pelvic pain, bladder dysfunction, menstrual cycle issues and possibly fertility issues. By improving the mobility of the organs and reducing any restrictions, functionality of the organs and the pelvis can be improved and any pain may be reduced.

Post-operative pain and scar tissue

Surgeries, as well as infections and trauma, and various other events, can lead to adhesion being created in tissues. This is especially likely around the organs. These restrictions can lead to impairment in the function of the organs involved; pain and limited range of movement in the musculoskeletal system; and poor circulation and fluid retention. Visceral Manipulation can help to reduce pain, release adhesions and improve the function of the musculoskeletal and visceral/organ systems.

Musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction

The interplay between the organs and the musculoskeletal system is extensive. Restrictions with the organs can affect range of movement in the musculoskeletal system and vice versa. A dysfunctional relationship can lead to pain, limited range of movement, headaches and migraines, musculoskeletal pain, back pain, chronic pelvic pain and instability, chronic spinal conditions and impaired function in various organ systems including digestive and breathing.
