Issues dealt with during pregnancy massage
Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain is very common during pregnancy especially toward the end. It can be due to a combination of factors, such as compensation for the change in your centre of gravity because of the baby, the hormone, relaxin, causing the softening of ligaments, pre-existing postural habits and old injuries. Your therapist will carry out a postural assessment and a full consultation with you to determine the causative factor. The treatment will be designed for your needs, helping you improve pain free movement. You will also be shown methods to help you maintain this improvement as best as possible with an ever growing baby.

Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain can be a big issue during pregnancy for many women. Like back pain, it can have a combination of causative factors such as compensation for carrying the ever growing baby, the position of baby, the hormone, relaxin, causing softening of ligaments, pre-existing postural habits and old injuries. Symphus Pubis Pain (SPP) can be linked in with this. Your therapist will carry out a full consultation and assessment to understand the reasons for your pain and carry out a treatment to ease the discomfort and improve pain free movement.

Headaches
Tension headaches can occur during pregnancy, just as they can normally. Often this is postural and due to muscle tension. Deep tissue pregnancy massage can help address your tension headaches. Your therapist will carry out a full consultation to understand the reasons for your headache and do the most appropriate treatment for you.

Swollen Ankles
Oedema or swelling of the ankles is common during pregnancy. They can occur in response to excess heat, flights, compression of lymph vessels due to postural habits or position of the baby and hormones. Lymph drainage massage can drain the fluid from your ankles helping to reduce the swelling, discomfort and stiffness associated with it. However, it does return. Lymph drainage massage and the self-treatment your therapist will show you, will help you manage your swelling.

Improved sleep
Sleep deprivation or insomnia can affect health, mood, energy levels, and concentration levels. Massage and reflexology can bring you to a state of relaxation that compare to sleep in its ability to enable recovery and repair. Treatments also aid normal sleep patterns where they have been disrupted by stress, pain or ill-health. Unfortunately though, it won’t prevent a new born waking up for its 2am feed, but it will make that easier to deal with.

De-stress
Stress can hit during pregnancy and post-natally same as it does during other times in your life. It has impacts on your sleep patterns, energy levels, mood and immune system, making you more susceptible to illness. Relaxation treatments like massage, reflexology and aromatherapy massage can help you reduce your stress levels, improve your response to stress, allow you to rest, re-energize, manage everything a bit better and actively boost your immune system.

Preparation for Labour as your Due Date Arrives
It is well know that increases in our stress hormones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisone will inhibit the commencement of and progress of labour. Relaxing treatments at this stage will encourage your labour to start naturally. Reflexology and some essential oils can take that one step further by having a direct impact on hormone production.
